Many
years ago (and still today, in certain parts of the world) the
culture of society was such that it forced Christians to meet in
secret places (many times in catacombs beneath the city). The
alternative was severe persecution, ending in death or denial of
faith in Jesus Christ. In essence, the early Christians chose
isolation, fear, discomfort, and the possibility of death rather
than denying faith in Jesus Christ… they chose to go
"underground" rather than compromise their faith to mainstream
worldviews.
It is our
prayer at FBC that our students will grow into an uncompromising
faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
The
purpose of the Underground is to help students PURSUE a growing,
uncompromising, and contagious relationship with a God that
loves them (love the Lord your God with all your heart, all
your soul, and all your mind) and REVEAL that relationship
through visible faith (love your neighbor as yourself).
Matthew 22:36-39 (NLT)
"Teacher, which is the most important
commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, " 'You must
love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and
all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A
second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
